Inconsistencies and Contradictions

जितकं मला कळतं आहे त्यानुसार एकवीस, सत्तावीस असे उच्चार व्यवहारातून बाद करा असा कुठलाही फतवा कोणीही काढलेला नाहीये. माझ्या मते, सुरुवातीच्या वयात संख्या ओळख करताना जोडाक्षरांचा उच्चार लक्षात न राहिल्यामुळे संख्या आकलन कमी राहण्याची समस्या उद्भवू नये म्हणून एक पर्याय सुचवला गेलेला आहे. ह्या बदलाबाबतची माझी भूमिका मी मांडत आहे. हा बदल विद्यार्थ्यांना संख्या आकलन सुलभ व्हावं म्हणून सुचवला गेला आहे. सत्तावीस म्हणजे २० आणि ७ असाच आपला विचार असतो. सत्तावीस ही वीस आणि सात ला मारलेली हाक आहे, टोपणनाव आहे. हे टोपणनाव रुळलेलं आहे. १० ते ९९ पर्यंत अशी ८१ टोपणनावे आहेत. (उरलेली ९ ही दशक संख्यांची नावे आहेत.) दोन अंकी संख्या शिकणाऱ्या विद्यार्थ्याला संख्या डोळ्यासमोर आणताना एकूण ९० नावे लक्षात ठेवावी लागतात.  नव्या प्रयोगात त्याला केवळ ९ दशक संख्या आणि ९ एकक संख्या लक्षात ठेवायच्या आहेत आणि नियम. उदा. ३० च्या पुढच्या दोन अंकी संख्या म्हणजे ३० सोबत एकक अंक क्रमाने ठेवत जाणे. एकक अंक संपले कि पुढचा दशक.  आपण असंच लक्षात ठेवतो. मनात अशीच प्रोसेस करून आपण लहानपणी संख्या लक्षात ठेवल्या असतील. फक्त त

     I have read Prayag Akbar’s novel ‘Leila’. It is an impressive attempt. Netflix series ‘Leila’ takes basic caricature of the plot of the novel as an inspiration and then charts territory of its own. It should not be thought of as a creation based on novel. One can appreciate ‘Leila’ better without such foreknowledge, I can say so by my experience.       Technology driven dystopia is rarely handled in Indian films or series. (One example I remember is ‘Matrubhumi’ which was a powerful concept. But it was social dystopia.) May be, the fact that we are not a society living at the cutting edge of technology makes dystopia set in Indian context unbelievable. ‘Leila’ too suffers from this disbelief. But even with such disbelief, ‘Leila’ could have become our own step towards ‘Handmaid’s tale’ or ‘Black Mirror’.
